Photomontages

Techniques

The photomontages use a wide variety of techniques, none of them digital. They are very labour-intensive, and much of the work involved happens before the various elements are montaged together. The sculptured landscapes, the costumes and the make-up are all devised specifically for the montages, and the photographs are all shot for the purpose.

The number of photographs used for an individual montage varies from half a dozen to more than forty, shot on 35mm, 6cm or 5 x 4in cameras, as appropriate.
